Nashville Area Retirement Communities

Are you looking for one of the Nashville area retirement communities? Nashville is not only the capitol and second largest city in Tennessee but is also the country music capitol of the world.

The Southern hospitality, world-class medical facilities, entertainment, outdoor activities, temperate climate and lack of a state income tax on earned income are just some of the things that are attracting retirees from all over the state, as well as all over the country, to Nashville and the surrounding area.

Home to Vanderbilt University as well as Music Row, the Hillsboro/Midtown Nashville area is filled with wonderful local boutiques, cafes and restaurants. There are new condominiums popping up all over the area, many with high-end amenities like outdoor kitchens and pools. Downtown Nashville is a short cab drive to the east where you can get your fill of music from the symphony to honky-tonks. You can also enjoy The Tennessee Performing Arts Center, which offers ballet, opera, theater and orchestral performances.

Nashville also offers a wide variety of outdoor activities with thousands of acres of hiking trails, horse trails and parks. Centennial Park, located across from Vanderbilt University in downtown Nashville, is a 132-acre park offering free wireless Internet access and a full scale replica of the Greek Parthenon.

Now, you would think that with as much as the city has to offer, Nashville area retirement communities would be booming but from what Ive found, that simply doesnt seem to be the case unless you are looking for continuing care or some level of assisted living. If you are looking for an Active Adult Community of single family homes, Ive only been able to locate two. Lake Providence by Del Webb which is located less than 20 miles from downtown Nashville in Mount Juliet, Tennessee and The Club at Pleasant Creek which is still in the planning stages.

Lake Providence is a gated resort style community with a 24,000 square foot clubhouse, and a fully stocked 15-acre lake. There is a complete aquatic center, state-of-the-art fitness center, an outdoor amphitheater overlooking the lake, a Sports Complex complete with tennis, pickle ball and bocce ball courts, a 1/2 court for basketball, as well as a canoe/kayak center.

The Club at Pleasant Creek, located 25 miles south of Nashville in middle Tennessee, when finished, will be an active adult concierge development for active adults who want a maintenance-free lifestyle.

Nashville has a lot to offer retirees, not only is it convenient to major interstates and has a large international airport but over 70% of the nations population is located within 600 miles of the city so friends and family are never far away.

Even though there are not very many Nashville area retirement communities to chose from, there are many other wonderful communities in the Nashville area. They may not be designated as Active Adult Retirement Communities but there are some very nice areas that you may find appealing. Just make sure that you do your homework wherever you decide to spend your golden years and be sure to visit the area at least twice, once in the summer and then again in the winter before you make your final decision.
